FTX Crypto Cup Chess Day 3 Results, Winners, Latest Standings, And Round 4 Schedule

Following today’s victories in the FTX Crypto Cup, Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa of India and Magnus Carlsen are tied on a perfect 9/9. Levon Aronian was defeated by Norway’s World Champion in a memorable match that included some exciting battling chess before the 31-year-old sealed a 2.5-1.5 victory. Pragg, who is vying for his first Meltwater Champions Chess Tour victory, wasn’t at his best against Hans Niemann, who played aggressively, but Pragg managed to grind out three points with a victory in the final game.

Niemann had demonstrated his seriousness by outperforming the 17-year-old joint-leader early on. Grandmaster Peter Leko praised Pragg’s response, which was dubbed a wonderful positional masterpiece. It implied that Niemann promptly gave up a tenacious lead, just as he did against Carlsen yesterday. After the third game ended in a draw, the outcome of the match depended on the fourth, which was evenly poised before Niemann committed a crucial error.

The first game was won in 69 moves by Carlsen, who had used a different unconventional opening strategy with the black pieces. After two tense draws, Carlsen played a quick last game and drew to secure all three points. Fourth round of the FTX Crypto Cup is slated for Thursday, including Carlsen vs. Le, Praggnanandhaa vs. Aronian, Firouzja vs. Duda, and Giri vs. Niemann.

Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa 9
