The tournament is set to take place on the clay courts of Roland-Garros in Paris and marks the sport’s second grand slam of the year.

Stars to watch

With Nadal’s absence, his fellow countryman Carlos Alcaraz enters as the top seed in the men’s tournament. Veteran Novak Djokovic will also be keen to secure a 23rd major tournament victory. Winning the title would make him the most successful player in the history of men’s tennis. However, Djokovic has a tough road upon him in the gruelling 2-week schedule of the French Open 2023.

Meanwhile, in the women’s draw, reigning champion, Poland’s Iga Swiatek enters as the top seed. She is also the bookmakers’ favourite to win the title in Paris again this summer. Swiatek beat American Coco Gauff in straight sets to secure the title during last year’s final. If she wins this year’s title, she will become just the eighth female tennis player to win on three separate occasions at Roland-Garros. She has previously won in 2020 and 2022.
