The death of a legendary ESPN sports broadcaster, Fred Hickman at 66 years has been declared and it has left all his colleagues heartbroken by his sudden demise, know his cause of death

The long-time sports broadcaster who was one of the first person who appeared on the YES Network in 2002 passed away on Wednesday, 9th of November 2022. His death news was reported by the New York Post.

Tributes to Hickman from his close colleagues and fellow members of the sports world have flooded social media platforms including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Fred’s death cause is yet to be confirmed.

Fred Hickman is survived by his second wife Sheila Bowers Hickman and they had the chance to exchange marriage vows on 1 July 2007 with his net worth standing at $5 million.

Hickman was well known for his work on CNN and also on ESPN. He began studying subject of sociology at Coe College based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where Fred got a degree in Bachelor of Science.

While studying in college, Fred worked at low-power radio station KCOE-FM which led to his career in broadcasting. In 1977, Hickman started his radio broadcasting career as a news anchor at KLWW-AM at the Cedar Rapids. After graduating, Fred shifted back to his hometown in Springfield, Illinois to work at WFMB-AM where Fred’s job was to play country music. But in 1978, in February when he was young and only 22 years old, Fred got his first big break at Springfield television station in WICS-TV where he was anchor and sports director.

Later on, Hickman left CNN to take part in the launch of the YES Network after becoming its first anchor and hosting pre-game and post-game shows for New York Yankees telecasts. Fred Hickman was mainly well known for his work with ESPN  from 2004 to 2008. Fred hosted the flagship shows such as SportsCenter, Baseball Tonight, in the ESPN Classic, NBA Shoot Around, and NBA Coast To Coast.

In recent years he established Fred Hickman Communications which offers broadcaster training for retired athletes. It also provides media training services for athletes, coaching staff and the whole sports industry front office staff. Fred Hickman also went on to work for Fox News, WVUE, WVLA and his most recent position with WDVM-TV which he began in 2018.
