On 22nd January 2022, UFC Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou defeated Ciryl Gane in the main event of UFC 270 via unanimous decision. But Ngannou is set to undergo knee surgery due to torn MCL and injured ACL, and as a result, he will stay away from UFC for up to ten months.

Ngannou signed a UFC deal back in December 2017, which ran up to 2021 December. However, he is the heavyweight champion and hence he will stay in UFC for at least three fights unless he loses the championship belt. Ngannou recently rejected a new promotionโs offer deal worth 5 million Pounds because he felt UFC wasnโt allowing him enough freedom.
The player wants the terms of the deal to be revised so that he will be allowed to do boxing and given enough freedom. UFC has refused to agree with Ngannouโs demands, and as a result, he has considered becoming a free agent.
Ngannou is open to the idea of extending his tenure in MMA premier promotion but declared that he would only do so if UFC agrees to his conditions.

Meanwhile, Ngannou has publicly exposed the stubborn and binding nature of UFC contract. Boxer Tyson Fury has taken it to twitter and publicly invited Ngannou to join professional boxing. Fury also stated that if Ngannou wants to make more real money then boxing is the place to be.
