FPL 2025/26 Top Picks for Gameweek 1
Given below is a breakdown of the top picks for the Gameweek 1 squad from each position:
Goalkeeper
Caoimhin Kelleher– Brentford (£4.5m, 32.3% owned)
Brentford’s Kelleher has seemingly emerged as the go-to budget option, after registering 4 clean sheets and 27 saves in just 10 appearances, despite limited minutes at Liverpool last season. He is currently projected to be the fourth-best £4.5m keeper over the first five Gameweeks.
Defenders
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – West Ham (£4.5m, 30.1%)
Wan-Bissaka has found new form at West Ham, recording 2 goals, 6 assists, and 15 bonus points last season. Armed with a favorable run of opening fixtures, he could be the best £4.5m option in the first few gameweeks.
Gabriel – Arsenal (£6.0m, 26.9%)
Gabriel is one of the most reliable picks each season and notably scored 3 goals, 10 clean sheets, and 117 points last term. Moreover, Arsenal has one of the most reliable defenses in the league. Gabriel has also featured in the Consensus XI picked by elite managers.
Aït-Nouri – Manchester City (£6.0m, 28.0%)
Aït-Nouri is one of the top midfielder picks at the start of this season bringing attacking returns of 4 goals and 7 assists in the 2024/25 season.
Frimpong – Liverpool (£6.0m, 29.2%)
Frimpong is a top attacking full-back with 3.4 projected points for GW1. While his role at Liverpool remains unclear as of now, particularly with competition from Conor Bradley, he is still one of the top picks at present.

Midfielders
Mohammad Salah – Liverpool (£14.5m, 57.4%)
Salah remains the king of FPL with 29 goals, 18 assists, and 344 points last season. With Liverpool set to start against Bournemouth at home in GW1, he is undoubtedly the top captain pick as well.
Rogers – Aston Villa (£7.0m, 20.5%)
Rogers is a budget breakout this season with 8 goals and 11 assists in 2024/25, and remains Villa’s top creator.
Palmer – Chelsea (£10.5m, 49.8%)
Palmer had a great season in the last outing with 15 goals and 10 assists, and whether or not he can stay consistent will remain a deciding factor.
Kudus – Spurs (£6.5m, 27.9%)

While Kudus had modest numbers last season, scoring 5 goals and 4 assists, he could simply flourish at Spurs this season under a more attacking system.
Wirtz – Liverpool (£8.5m, 37.7%)
Florian Wirtz was one of the Bundesliga’s brightest stars scoring 10 goals and 12 assists last season. However, he is still untested in the Premier League and remains a risky pick despite the popularity around him.
Attackers
João Pedro – Chelsea (£7.5m, 60.3%)
João Pedro will lead the line for Chelsea this season after scoring 10 goals and 6 assists last season. While there is a risk of rotation with Liam Delap in the squad, Pedro has emerged as the top pick.
Salah looks the set captain choice for gameweek 1 while Palmer is the vice-captain.
