The former Indian football player Parimal Dey passed away from sickness. He was 81 years old.
Soon the word about his death went out, and it caused huge sorrow in the whole country, especially in the football community. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) mourned the former player’s passing. In his statement, AIFF President Kalyan Cahubey said,
Parimal Dey’s demise comes as a big loss for Indian Football. Jangla-da, as he was known to us, was one of the best schemers of the 1960s, and remains in the hearts and minds of the fans till date. My thoughts go out to his family.
Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran, the secretary general, also sent his condolences, adding that the death of Parimal Dey has shaken the whole Indian football community.

Who was Parimal Dey?
Parimal Dey was a well-known Indian football player. He has been in the news because he passed away recently at the age of 81.
He was born on May 4, 1941, in West Bengal. He was fondly called “Jangla-da.” In 2019, the West Bengali government awarded him the title of “Banga Bhushan.”
He died on February 1, 2023. At the time of his death, he was 22 years old.
His career
Parimal Dey, a highly skilled inside-left during his peak in the 1960s, had five appearances for India and contributed to the nation’s bronze-medal performance in the 1966 Merdeka Cup in Kuala Lumpur with a goal. It was also his sole goal for his country.
Dey has the distinction of twice taking home the Santosh Trophy at the national level, in 1962 and 1969. He scored 84 goals while playing as a forward for East Bengal and led the team in 1968. In 1968, he served as the team’s captain.
He holds the distinction of having won both the Calcutta Football League and the IFA Shield multiple times, in 1966, 1970, and 1973. He also cemented his place in Indian football history by scoring in two IFA Shield finals, one against BNR (1966) and the other against Iranian side PAS Club (1970), which continues to be the fastest goal scored by a player who entered the game as a substitute.
In addition to this, Parimal Dey has won the Rovers Cup (1967, 1969, 1973), the Durand Cup (1967, 1970), and other competitions. He then played for Mohun Bagan, helping them win the Rovers Cup once again in 1971.

A family source stated that he had been fighting age-related illnesses for quite some time and breathed his last breath at a hospital late on Wednesday.
