Football transfers: Forward David Williams leaves ATK Mohun Bagan

Kolkata, May 30 Australian footballer David Williams will depart from ATK Mohun Bagan after two glorious years with the Mariners, the club confirmed in a statement on Monday.

The 34-year-old Williams was a key figure in Bagan’s attack, as he brought in numerous goals and assists, and came in having vast experience playing across the Belgian and Australian top-flight leagues.

Having played under two different managers in Antonio Lopez Habas and Juan Ferrando, the Australian racked up 37 appearances for the Green and Maroon shirt, being heavily involved in the offence with 10 goals and three assists across the two seasons for the Mariners.

Williams struck up a deadly partnership with Roy Krishna upfront and posed quite the threat for defenders, in conjunction with being a favourite amongst the ATK Mohun Bagan faithful.

While the Mariners might cherish several iconic moments of Williams, one such moment particularly stands out when he scored the fastest-ever goal to date in the Indian Super League (ISL) when the forward found the back of the net in just 12 seconds against Hyderabad FC in the 2021-22 campaign.

With the departure of Williams, the Mariners have big shoes to fill and will need a like-for-like replacement to make sure their attacking firepower remains threatening.
