As it was on May 28 in Rabat, the men’s 100-meter race will serve as the primary event. As Italian Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs dropped out of the series match in Rabat, the current world champion Fred Kerley will attempt to defeat him.
Erriyon Knighton, a rising sprint star, and Grant Holloway, the 110-meter hurdles world champion, will travel to Florence with Kerley as the other two best American sprinters. Expect an equally thrilling women’s 100-meter race with Americans Aleia Hobbs and Gabby Thomas, British Dina Asher-Smith, and Marie-Jose Ta Lou in the field.
Femke Bol, the world silver medalist in the women’s 400-meter hurdles, will be looking for another solid showing, while Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon, the world and Olympic winner in the women’s 1500-meter race, is the favourite.
Olympic medalists Joshua Cheptegei (Uganda), Malaika Mihambo of Germany, and many others have already confirmed their participation in the Golden Gala, which is expected to be one of the most thrilling sports competitions of 2023.
