Five Players Who Can Captain RCB When Virat Kohli Steps Down From IPL Captaincy

With Virat Kohli leaving the captaincy of RCB from the next leg after IPL 2021, fans are unaware of who will take up his job as the new captain in the future years

As the team’s illustrious captain steps down, the question of who will take over as captain becomes increasingly pressing. Because significant auctions will precede the IPL 2022, many new and exciting players will be scrutinized, and a few can lead RCB in the following season.

Virat Kohli shocked his admirers by announcing another resignation on September 19, 2021, after electing to leave as India’s T20I captain following the T20 World Cup. Kohli stated before RCB’s first game in the UAE leg of the IPL 2021 that he will step down as captain after the current season but will continue to play for the franchise until the end of his career.

IPL 2021: Five Names Who Can Be The New RCB Captain

1. AB de Villiers

A few names are always associated with franchises, and De Villiers, the South African superstar, is one of them for RCB. The superb batsman had done an excellent job for the squad, bringing the team out of difficult situations for years. He is one of RCB’s most skilled members and has a close relationship with the current captain and winning a game.

If Kohli decides to step down, there isn’t a better person to lead the squad than Mr. 360. With his expertise captaining his national team in all formats, RCB’s decision to hand over the team’s reins to him would be perfect.

2. David Warner

In the IPL right now, things aren’t going so well for David Warner. He was relieved of his captaincy midway through the Indian phase of the IPL 2021. He lost his spot in the SRH playing XI. His case for taking the assigned charge stands strong after leading SRH to an IPL title in 2006 and winning the IPL Orange Cap three times.

However, how far the RCB administration would trust the Australian star remains to be seen.

3. Suryakumar Yadav

SKY is finally receiving his due after building a solid case with the Mumbai Indians in consecutive IPL seasons. However, MI’s star-studded squad has many players to keep ahead of him, which might lead to the batsman leaving the team. If that happens, RCB will rally behind Mumbai’s batsmen and allow him to lead from the front.

He has sufficient batting experience and would be eager to take on a new job with zeal in the upcoming season.

4. Devdutt Padikkal

When it comes to some of the current RCB’s best batsmen, Devdutt Padikkal’s name sticks out. He has performed admirably for the team for the past two years, and entrusting him with the captaincy notion could prove to be a wise option for RCB. He’s been phenomenal with the bat, and with senior guys surrounding him, he shouldn’t have any problems leading the club. In IPL 2020, he scored 473 runs and has already achieved a century in the first half of IPL 2021.

5. Glenn Maxwell

One of the most significant assets in T20 cricket, Glenn Maxwell, has seen his price rise since signing a massive deal for INR 14.25 crores for RCB for the IPL 2021 season. With the Kohli-led side this season, Maxwell has recaptured his lost form. This Australian all-rounder is eligible to apply for the soon-to-be-vacant skipper position.

Big Show Maxwell’s name will undoubtedly ring a bell in the minds of the franchise’s think tank next season if RCB needs a much newer leader than De Villiers, who is 36 years old.

For now, RCB is in a strong position and would like to win their maiden title before Virat’s departure as captain.
