Musician Danny Javier was a part of the trio of the OPM band APO Hiking Society and he died on Monday 31st of October 2022 after following a prolonged illness. Danny Javier was known for coining the term OPM which is Original Pilipino Music. It is a genre that earned massive recognition over years.

Danny’s daughter Justine Javier Long declared, the cause of his death are ‘complications due to the prolonged illnesses he was suffering through.
Danny Javier had four children, namely; Jobim Javier, Justine Javier, Jamael Javier, and Juliene Javier but the details of his wife are not known. Javier aged 75 was a survivor of kidney failure, pneumonia, emphysema, heart failure, hepatitis and sepsis.
He coined the term “OPM,” which referred to the Music of the Philippines and Philippine pop songs, particularly ballads, as well as any musical composition created by a Filipino that became popular in the Philippines from the late 1970s to the present.

Boboy Garrovillo, who was a part of the APO Hiking Society, mourned the death of Javier’s stated “Just a feeling of the loss of an old faithful friend who knew what love is although sometimes it just doesn’t show. My friend lives on in his music and long life Javier.”

Danny Javier hailed from Abuyog, Leyte and he was a pioneer in popularizing the OPM movement in the 1970s. He dropped a number of chart-topping tracks which were Pumapatak ang Ulan in 1978, Kaibigan in 1978, Doo bidoo in 1978, Kabilugan ng Buwan in 1980, Blue Jeans in 1981, Di Na Natuto in 1985, Kumot At Unan in 1991, Awit ng Barkada in 1991, Just A Smile Away in 1992 and Lumang Tugtugin in 1992.
Danny Javier has also worked as an actor and had numerous of television credits to his name which include Tawag Ng Tahanan, Vilma On Seven, Power House, Boys Ride Out!, Sabado Badoo, Tonight With Boy Abunda and Sunday Pinasaya.
