John Regala, a renowned Filipino actor known for his wide variety of iconic villain roles, has unexpectedly passed away at the age of 55.

Aster Amoyo, a renowned entertainment journalist, posted the heartbreaking information on his Facebook page. Amoyo disclosed that Regala passed away on June 3 at around 6:00 a.m. due to a number of health issues. Victoria Scherrer, Regala’s widow, subsequently broke the news of his passing in a statement to ABS-CBN News, confirming the tragic news. She revealed,
He died at 6:28 a.m. of cardiac arrest due to liver and kidney complications at the New Era General Hospital.
According to Scherrer, the actor was receiving urgent treatment and was hospitalized for three weeks before passing quite suddenly. Reportedly, Regala’s remains had been sent to St. Peter Chapels in Quezon City along Commonwealth Avenue while his family was still arranging the burial preparations.
As word of John Regala’s passing spread, the internet erupted in emotional tributes to the late actor. Who was John Regala?
John Regala was a well-known Filipino actor and environmentalist. He has been in the news because he passed away recently at the age of 55.
His full name is John Paul Guido Boucher Scherrer. He was born on September 12, 1967, in Manila, Philippines. His father’s name was Mel Francisco, and his mother’s name was Ruby Regala. Both of his parents were actors.
John Regala was married twice. He first married Aurina Manansala in 1996. However, they divorced in 2004. Subsequently, he married Victoria “Vicky” or “Gina” Alonzo in 2005.
He battled drug abuse and was also admitted to a rehabilitation center for a while. He died on June 3, 2023, in Quezon City, Philippines. At the time of his death, he was 55 years old.
His career
In the middle of the 1980s, John Regala started working for “That’s Entertainment.” He gained fame as an action star in films like “Boy Kristiano” (1989) and “Isa-Isahin ko Kayo” (1990). Notably, he portrayed his uncle in “Primitivo Ebok Ala: Kalaban Mortal ni Baby Ama” (1992) and played a chilling role in “The Vizconde Massacre: God Help Us” (1993).
Following a break, Regala made a comeback to acting with films like “Zombading: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington” (2011) and “Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story” (2011), which brought him recognition and a Best Supporting Actor nomination.
John Regala also appeared in TV series like “Valiente” (2012), “Ina, Kapatid, Anak” (2013), “Juan Dela Cruz” (2013), and “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” (2016) alongside famous actors.
In addition, he was an environmentalist and served as the president and chief executive officer of Project Green Evolution, Inc., the company that makes the Water Bonsai Organic Root Grower.
Cause of death of John Regala
He died due to many ailments. Regala’s continuous struggles with diabetes, gout, and liver cirrhosis led to numerous hospital admissions, according to The Manila Times.
