Despite earning an early penalty corner, India couldn’t translate it into a goal. On the contrary, Belgium not only defended strongly to deny India an early advantage but also executed successful counter-attacks. This strategy proved effective when Noa Schreurs scored a remarkable field goal, giving Belgium an early lead. The opening quarter concluded with Belgium leading 1-0.
Eager to overturn the situation, India adopted an aggressive stance in the second quarter, striving to maintain ball possession. However, Belgium’s resolute defense thwarted India’s efforts, preserving their 1-0 lead at halftime as the second quarter ended without any goals. Belgium eventually broke through as France De Mot skillfully converted a penalty corner, doubling their lead. The penultimate quarter concluded with Belgium leading 2-0.
In the final quarter, India launched a desperate offensive that resulted in their first goal of the match by Annu from a penalty corner, narrowing the deficit. Encouraged by this breakthrough, India intensified their attacks, leading to a crucial penalty stroke that Annu calmly converted, leveling the score. However, moments later, Belgium was also awarded a penalty stroke, which Astrid Bonami slotted in to regain the lead.
