India finished third in Pool B, ahead of China on goal differential, and qualified for the cross-overs despite losing the match 4-3. The competition will feature 16 teams, just like in 2018. Along with the five regional champions, the host nation, Spain, and the Netherlands will all be given automatic places. The number of slots made available through continental championships—including the World Cup hosts—was increased from six to sixteen when the 2020 Summer Olympics were postponed. 2022 Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup India vs New Zealand Results, Score, Standings, Upcoming Schedule, Date, Time, And Venue
While losing 4-3 to New Zealand in the penultimate FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup 2022 Pool B game on Thursday, the Indian women’s hockey team made enough progress to maintain its chances of making the quarterfinals. At the Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen, the Netherlands, India’s goals came from Vandana Katariya (3′), Lalremsiami (43′), and Gurjit Kaur (58′), while New Zealand’s came from Merry Olivia (11′, 53′), Jopp Tessa (28′), and Davies Frances (31′).
India managed to finish third, ahead of China, to secure a spot in the crossover bracket for a second chance at the last eight despite the fact that New Zealand won Pool B with seven points from three matches and secured a direct spot in the quarterfinals. India will now need to travel to Catalonia, Spain for their crossover encounter against the second-placed team from Pool C at the Estadi Olmpic de Terrassa. In the quarterfinals, the victor of that game will play Australia.
