The Indian men’s hockey team will compete in the FIH Pro League 2022–23 beginning on March 10 in Rourkela, Odisha, against the Commonwealth champions Australia and the reigning world champion Germany.

There will be two meetings between Australia, Germany, and India on the subsequent leg in Rourkela. The FIH Pro League matches will be streamed live in India.

Following India’s underwhelming showing in the FIH Hockey World Cup 2023 in Odisha earlier this year, South African Craig Fulton, who replaced Australian Graham Reid as India’s head coach, will get his first test in these four games.

Fulton took over for Reid. India had been disallowed entry to the quarterfinal round.

In October of last year, India invited Spain and New Zealand to the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar to kick off the FIH Pro League 2022–23.

Spain lost one game and drew one, while India defeated the Black Sticks in both of their matches during that leg.

The Indian hockey team is currently ranked fourth in the FIH Pro League rankings with eight points from four games. With the same number of points from the same number of games, Germany sits sixth in the standings.

Australia, on the other side, has four points in four games and is in seventh place.

India’s captain Harmanpreet Singh is one of the top three scorers in the FIH Pro League 2022–23 with six goals (five penalty corners and one penalty stroke) in four games.

After the Rourkela leg, India will head to London to play Belgium and Great Britain (May 26 to June 3), then play their last round of games against the Netherlands and Argentina in Eindhoven (June 7 to June 11).

India’s finish in third place in the Men’s FIH Pro League 2021–22 was their best league performance to date.
