Drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh scored four goals to help India beat South Africa 10-2 in the men’s FIH Pro League hockey here on Sunday, bouncing back from their previous defeat.
India vs South Africa Result And Score
After a 1-1 deadlock in the first quarter, India dominated the remaining three periods, scoring nine goals against the hapless South Africans to earn their third win in four games. India, who were surprised by lower-ranked France on Saturday, won by the same margin in the first leg of their World Cup qualifying match against South Africa.
Surender Kumar, who had two penalty corners in the first quarter, equalised three minutes later with a superb field effort into the roof of the South African net.
In the second quarter, the Manpreet Singh-led team scored two quick goals in less than two minutes, thanks to field goals from Shilanand Lakra and Mandeep Singh, to take a 3-1 advantage into halftime.
In the 24th minute, Krishna Bahadur Pathak, who replaced veteran PR Sreejesh in the Indian goal, made a fantastic stop to deny South Africa their third penalty corner of the match.
FIH Pro League India Vs South Africa Top Goal Scorers
Harmanpreet scored four times in the 36th, 52nd, 60th, and 60th minutes, whereas Shilananda Lakra scored twice in the 27th and 48th minutes.
India’s other goal scorers were Surender Kumar (15th), Mandeep Singh (28th), Sumit (45th), and Shamsher Singh (56th).
South Africa scored through Daniel Bell (12th) and Connor Beauchamp (53rd).
