On Day 2 of the Hero FIH Hockey5s Lausanne 2022, Indian Men’s team produced three unblemished performances before finally lifting the Inaugural Hockey 5s Trophy. With a 6-4 triumph over Poland in the final, the Indian men’s team was declared the inaugural FIH Hockey 5s champions.

2022 FIH Hockey 5s Tournament History, New Format, And Participating Teams
The Hero FIH Hockey5s Lausanne 2022 event is the first official senior World Hockey5s competition organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation, and it built on the success of previous Hockey5s events around the world, including the Youth Olympic Games events in Nanjing 2014 and Buenos Aires 2018.
In a round-robin event, men’s teams from India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland, and Switzerland competed, with the top two teams advancing to the final.

The competition offered some terrific fast and skilled hockey play for the audience. Hockey5s is a faster-paced and more frenzied version of the game. The game was split into two 10-minute halves, with the ball in play for 90% of the time thanks to perimeter boards that could be utilized to play the ball.
Players were permitted to shoot from anywhere in the attacking half, which resulted in a plethora of goals. This tournament, as well as the growing number of Hockey5s tournaments around the world, will surely generate excitement among players and coaches.

India won the inaugural FIH Hockey 5s championship on Sunday after a spectacular comeback from a three-goal deficit to defeat Poland 6-4 in a thrilling final. Earlier, India finished their league campaign unblemished, having won the five-team league standings with three wins and one tie to enter the final.
The final was India’s second victory over the same opponents on the same day. Three and a half hours earlier, India had defeated Poland, who had ended second with two victories and as many defeats, 6-2 in their round-robin league encounter.
Earlier in the day, India defeated Malaysia 7-3, scoring four goals in the second half in a spectacular display, before defeating Poland 6-2 in the second match. Meanwhile, Indian star Raheel finished the competition as the leading goal scorer with ten goals in five games.

The Indians were surprised for a short time after Poland scored three goals without reply in the first five minutes of play, thanks to Mateusz Nowakowski (1st), Wojciech Rutkowski (5th), and captain Robert Pawlak (5th). However, the Indians soon recovered from the early setback, with Sanjay and captain Gurinder Singh scoring in the eighth and ninth minutes, respectively, to take a 3-2 lead into the break.
It was only a matter of time until the Indians regained their composure, as they took a 4-3 lead thanks to field goals from Dhami Boby Singh (11th) and Raheel Mohammed, the tournament’s leading scorer (13th). The Indians were unstoppable after they gained the upper hand against a helpless Poland, as Raheel (17th) and Singh (19th) each scored their second goal of the game to complete the formalities. Jacek Kurowski, the Polish captain, equalised in the 18th minute to cut the deficit to one goal.
