As teams began to understand the outcomes they required to achieve the goals they had set for the pool stages, Day 4 of the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup produced some intense games. Malaysia scored first today, defeating Chile 3-2 after twice coming back from goals down. Later in the evening, France imitated them by defeating South Africa in a similarly close match to earn their first points in Pool A. In the matchup of the unbeaten teams, Netherlands easily defeated New Zealand 4-0 to go up to 6 points. They now only need a draw in their next match against Chile to secure first place in Pool C and a position in the quarterfinals.

The momentum bounced back and forth between Argentina and Australia during their Pool A match, which was extremely interesting. Australia was trailing 3-2 with only two minutes left, but Blake Govers, making his comeback from injury, stepped up and scored a spectacular goal to keep Australia at the top of the pool thanks to their significantly better goal differential.
