FIFA World Cup Golden Boot History, Format, & List of All-Time Winners
The top goal scorer of the FIFA World Cup receives the Golden Boot or Golden Shoe award. Every World Cup has a list of the top goal scorers, but the Golden Shoe award was first presented in 1982. Although FIFA occasionally includes the best goal scorers from past Cups among the Golden Boot winners, the term was renamed to Golden Boot in 2010.
Since 1994, the player with the most assists wins the tie-breaker if more than one player has the same amount of goals. If still the tie persists, player with the fewer minutes during the competition is ranked first. Currently, Silver Boot is awarded to the 2nd highest goal scorer and Bronze Boot to the 3rd best scorer. In 2014 FIFA World Cup, Colombian ace James Rodriguez won the Golden Boot. while Harry Kane won the same award at 2018 FIFA World Cup.
