Germany kept up its perfect winning streak against Brazil in their quarterfinal match and proceeded to the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup semifinals with a 2-0 victory. Nigeria, however, made history by defeating the United States by a score of 1-1 (4-3) in a penalty shootout to go to their first semi-final.

In Friday’s first quarterfinal match between USA and Nigeria, Joesphine Edafe’s 26th minute penalty gave an early 1-0 lead to Nigeria but USA equalized just before half-time through goal from Martina Villarreal. With the enormous stakes seemingly restricting the play, the second half saw both teams mostly cancel each other out. The Americans were more likely to win in the end, but the Nigerians defended well. In the ensuing shootout, American star Francis Jackson missed her penalty, but Nigerian Edafe made it and gave her country the victory. With this win, Nigeria have qualified for their first-ever semi-final in their fourth attempt, where they will face winner of Colombia vs Tanzania quarterfinal.
During another quarterfinal, Germany comfortably defeated Brazil by score of 2-0 in a clash of heavyweights thanks to goals from Marie Steiner and Melina Kruger. Steiner skillfully volleyed Mara Alber’s tempting cross into the goal from a set-piece to give Germany the lead in 23rd minute. The second goal wasn’t scored until five minutes into stoppage time of second-half, when Laura Gloning surged down the right side and put a beautiful cross into the middle, where Kruger had plenty of time to bring the ball down and score for 2-0. Following their victory, Germany have sealed berth in semi-final stage and are scheduled to play winner of quarterfinal match between Japan and Spain.
On Saturday, Colombia will take on Tanzania at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium of Margao in first quarterfinal of the day while Japan will play Spain in second quarterfinal of the day at same venue. Fans can purchase their tickets for this event from here.
