The tournament will feature seven club teams face off against one another in a series of rounds to win the world champions title.

Morocco are hosting the Club World Cup for the third time after previously hosting it in 2013 and 2014. Two cities, Tangier and Rabat are hosting the matches at the Stade Ibn Batouta and Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium respectively.

Format

Each of the seven teams will play knockout matches throughout the tournament. In case of a draw, extra time and penalties (if necessary) will decide the final winner. For the third-place match, a draw will result in direct penalties.

2023 FIFA Club World Cup Teams

The 2023 FIFA World Cup featured seven clubs who are the club champions of six continents, and one team who are the host nation’s champion.

However, Moroccan champions Wydad Casablanca also won the most recent African Champions League. As such, their host nation berth was given to the African Champions League runners-up Al Ahly.

FIFA Club World Cup new upcoming format

Last year, on December 16, 2022, FIFA made an announcement regarding the launch of a new 32-team Club World Cup. According to the announcement, the new format would begin in June 2025 and held every four years during the summer.

As of now, FIFA haven’t revealed any details about the qualification criteria of the 32 spots. Gianni Infantino, the current FIFA president only stated that “they will be the best teams in the world.”

2023 FIFA Club World Cup draw

FIFA organised the Club World Cup draw on Friday, January 13 at 12:00 CET (11:00 GMT / 06:00 ET). The draw took place at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Sale, Rabat, and was streamed live on FIFA+.
