As the African club champions are from Morocco, the host entry was returned to the Confederation of African Football, which then gave it to the continental runner-up team, Al Ahly of Egypt. Normally, the host nation receives an entry.

They will compete in the first round alongside Auckland City of New Zealand, the reigning Oceanian champion.

The 2021 AFC Champions League champions Al Hilal will represent Asia and enter the competition in the second round along with Wydad Casablanca (Africa) and Seattle Sounders because the 2022 AFC Champions League has not yet ended (North, Central America and the Caribbean).

The competition’s traditional powerhouses from South America and Europe will be the last to compete, with Flamengo from Brazil and Real Madrid from Spain entering the semifinals.

Real Madrid, which is vying for its fifth competition championship, is arguably the biggest of these names.
