The Golden Ball award has been a part of the FIFA World Cup competition since 1982. Back in the 2018 World Cup held in Russia, Luka Modric from Croatia won the prestigious Gold Ball Award.
While Croatia were unquestionably the dark horses of the tournament, they managed to make it till the finals. Though they beat England in the semi-final to reach the finals against France, they eventually lost 4-2.
37-year-old Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, who was also the captain for the Croatian team managed to win the Golden Ball award at the Russia 2018 World Cup. Following which he also went on to win the Ballon d’Or after a successful season with both club and country.
