This prestigious competition is being held at the Berjaya Reykjavik Natura Hotel in Reykjavik, Iceland from October 25–30, 2022. Based on their seeding, eight players are divided into two groups of four each. Each player faced the other members of their respective group four times throughout the six rounds of the best-of-two double round robin tournament: twice with the black pieces and twice with the white pieces.

For the first 30 moves, each player will have 25 minutes to complete their moves. After that, each player will have an additional 5 minutes to complete their moves, with each additional minute adding 5 seconds to the total time starting with move 31. The players will be given the opportunity to consult a registered Second 15 minutes before the scheduled start of play before learning the position of the pieces. Players will receive 2 points for winning the two-game mini match, 1 point apiece for a draw, and 0 points for a defeat, with a score of 1.5-0.5 in the mini match being recorded as a victory of 2-0. For each pair of players in the group, there will be two of these mini matches. There will be a best-of-four-game format in the knockout round.

2022 FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Championship Day 1 Results, Score, Winners, Standings, & Day 2 Schedule

Nodirbek Abdusattorov, the current World Rapid champion, got off to a great start at 2022 FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Championship by defeating World Championship Challenger Ian Nepomniachtchi 2-0 in Round 1. Then, in the second round, he defeated reigning champion Wesley So to secure second straight victory to claim an early-lead of Group A. Meanwhile in Group B, Hikaru Nakamura won both of his matches to sit first after first round matches. Nakamura defeated Blubaum in first round with ease and followed it with a superb win against reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen to finish first day with 4/4 points.

Wesley So defeated Hjorvar Gretarsson in their encounter with a decisive victory in just 19 moves. In the meantime, Carlsen overcame Fedoseev in their first-round matchup. On Wednesday, 3rd & 4th round matches will be played starting from 8:00 PM PT (9:00 PM CEST) where Magnus Carlsen will attempt to overtake Nakamura as group leader and qualify for semi-finals. Elsewhere, reigning champion Wesley So will play Ian Nepomniachtchi on Wednesday in a clash of heavyweights.
