On Saturday, Indian youngsters Dommaraju Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi both triumphed in their respective Round 5 ties of the 2023 FIDE World Cup to earn 1-0 lead. Notably, Gukesh earned win against Wang Hao and Arjun defeated Nils Grandelius on the opening day of round five. In the open section, Magnus Carlsen, Leinier Dominguez, & Nijat Abasov also emerged victorious in their respective matches to gain advantage ahead of Sunday’s games. Meanwhile, Tan Zhongyi and Nurgyul Salimova secured comfortable victories in the Women’s section.
However, Indian prodigy Praggnanandhaa settled for a draw against Berkes and will be eager to win their clash on Sunday. Elsewhere, Vidit Gujrathi managed to earn a draw against Ian Nepomniachtchi and can secure his berth in the semi-final with victory on Sunday.
