After winning his fifth-round tiebreaker against Ian Nepomniachtchi, Indian star Vidit Gujrathi qualified for the quarter-final of 2023 FIDE World Cup. Following this result, it is confirmed that four Indian players will be participating in Round 6 and Gujrathi will play against Nijat Abasov with a place in the semi-final at stake. On Tuesday, first matches of Round 6 will be played as top-seed Magnus Carlsen will clash against Indian youngster Gukesh and in-form Fabiano Caruana will play versus Leinier Dominguez Perez. Meanwhile, Indian fans will closely monitor the all-Indian tie featuring Erigaisi vs Praggnanandhaa, whose winner will inch closer towards the FIDE World Cup.
After defeating Polina Shuvalova in just two games during their Round 5 tie, Nurgyul Salimova qualified for the semi-final of women’s division. Meanwhile, Anna Muzychuk defeated Elisabeth Paehtz in the tiebreaker to secure her place in Round 6.
