With this, he has qualified for the semi-final of 2023 FIDE World Cup and is scheduled to face Caruana next.

Despite losing his first game of Round 6 tie against fellow Indian youngster Arjun Erigaisi, Praggnanandhaa showcased his mettle by winning the second game with black pieces. With this win, he was also able to draw their tie 1-1 and force a tiebreaker, which was played on Thursday.
During the tiebreaker, Praggnanandhaa won 5-4 to seal his berth in the open bracket semi-final stage of 2023 FIDE World Cup. Following these results, it is confirmed that the Indian prodigy will face-off against Fabiano Caruana in the semi-final. Meanwhile, top-seed Magnus Carlsen will play Nijat Abasov. As per official schedule, Round 7 ties will be played from 19th August through 21st August.
Elsewhere, Nurgyul Salimova continued her unprecedented title quest after a hard-fought 3.5-2.5 tiebreaker victory against Anna Muzychuk. In the women’s tournament championship match, she will clash against Aleksandra Goryachkina. Meanwhile, Anna Muzychuk will play against Zhongyi Tan to determine the third-place finisher. As per schedule, the first game of the women’s bracket final will be played on Saturday.
