On Monday, Indian prodigy played against Fabiano Caruana in the 2023 FIDE World Cup semi-final tiebreaker after their tie ended 1-1 following two games. Although fans expected Caruana to emerge victorious, Praggnanandhaa showcased his tenacity and managed to draw first four games of the tiebreaker. Following this, he won the fifth game using white pieces and established 3-2 lead with just one game to spare. In the sixth game, Caruana played using white pieces and dominated for the majority of the game but, Praggnanandhaa managed to tie this game for retaining his lead. Following this 1-1 (3.5-2.5) victory against Fabiano Caruana, Praggnanandhaa has qualified for the championship match, where he will face-off against top-seed Magnus Carlsen.
Meanwhile, Aleksandra Goryachkina clinched the women’s tournament title following her tiebreaker win against Nurgyul Salimova by score of 1.5-0.5 in the final. After the first two games ended in a tie, tiebreaker was required to decide the champion and in the first game of the tiebreaker, in-form Nurgyul made some fatal errors and succumbed to defeat. Despite her best efforts in the second game, Nurgyul settled for a draw and ultimately, Goryachkina won the championship match 2.5-1.5 to bag $50,000.

It is official that the winner of the open bracket will receive a substantial payment of $110,000. Meanwhile, Aleksandra Goryachkina will return home with prize money of $50,000 after winning the Women’s Tournament.
