2023 FIDE World Chess Championship Round 1 result, match events, Round 3 schedule, date, time, venue, & format
In game two of the 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship, GM Ian Nepomniachtchi easily defeated GM Ding Liren, providing chess enthusiasts with a definitive outcome quickly. After a successful-appearing innovation by Ding on move 4, things quickly went wrong for the first-time challenger, and Nepomniachtchi only needed 29 moves to win the game. During the initial moments of the match, Ding looked comfortable but, he took 34 minutes to make his 12th move and allowed Nepomniachtchi to gain momentum with his own well-played moves.
Although it appears especially unfair to lose after successfully stunning his opponent with an opening novelty, Ding might have more moves in his arsenal thanks to having a creative second like Richard Rapport. After losing the second match, Ding is bound to deal with huge pressure but he will certainly make the most of Tuesday’s break to think of counter against his rival. On Wednesday, the third-round of this event will begin at the same St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan.
