In game five of the 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship, GM Ian Nepomniachtchi again pulled ahead by taking use of his opening and time advantages to put pressure on GM Ding Liren until the Chinese world number three made some crucial errors and lost before the time limit. Nepomniachtchi played in a manner that has become his style; he completed his first 22 moves in a flash and had one hour plus twenty-two minutes remaining when Ding resigned on move 48.
At his 24th move, Ian Nepomniachtchi played a stellar move and paved his path to victory and although Ding had chances to recover from the losing position, his blunder on the 37th move proved fatal. Ultimately, Ding decided to admit his defeat on 48th move and allowed his rival to establish 3-2 lead. With three decisive matches from five, the championship game is becoming a must-watch and now the whole world will be eager to see if Ding can make another comeback to restore parity.

World Chess Championship 2023 prize money pool distribution
If either player earns 7.5 or more points during the game’s conventional phase, the €2 million prize fund will be split, with €1.2 million going to the victor and €800,000 going to the runner-up. After 14 regular games, if the score is still tied, the winner of the tiebreaker will receive 55% of the prize money.
