2023 FIDE World Blitz Chess Championship latest results, day 2 schedule, date, venue, format, & leading players
Vladislav Artemiev, Magnus Carlsen, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Nihal Sarin, Arjun Erigaisi, and Alexander Riazantsev all achieved nine points each, leading the standings at the conclusion of day one in the 2023 FIDE World Blitz Chess Championship. The sixth-round match between Andrew Hong and Yu Yangyi sparked a controversy when Hong raised concerns about a clock malfunction, resulting in an hour’s delay before the seventh round.
Consequently, the games extended until 10:00 PM in Samarkand, visibly fatiguing the players towards the end. Meanwhile, Daniil Dubov and Ian Nepomniachtchi incurred penalties, receiving a 0-0 score, due to their unusual draw played solely with knight moves. This decision cost them half a point each and dropped them from the leading group.
In a standout performance of the day, Valentina Gunina surged ahead with an impressive 8.5 points from nine games, securing a one-and-a-half-point lead over the competition. Harika Dronavalli, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Anastasia Bodnaruk, and Kateryna Lagno are closely trailing with seven points each.
