The FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament 2024 is set to take place in Toronto, Canada, from April 3 to 23, 2024.

Interestingly, the 2024 edition will introduce a new concept where both the FIDE Men’s and Women’s Candidates will compete concurrently at the same venue within the same time frame.
The upcoming competition will determine the challenger for the World Champion title against World Champion Ding Liren and Women’s World Champion Ju Wenjun.

The Great Hall, located in Toronto, Canada, will serve as the venue for the upcoming tournament. Notably, Canada is the first country in North America to host the tournament. The upcoming tournament will take place between April 3 and 23, 2024.

FIDE Candidates Winner prize money breakdown
The tournament will feature a total prize money of €500,000 (INR 4,51,23,000) while the Women’s Candidates Tournament will have a prize money of €250,000 (INR 2,25,60,203).
FIDE Candidates Tournament 2024 format
Both the tournaments will follow a double round-robin format. Each player will compete against their seven opponents twice, once with white pieces and once with black. Over the three weeks of the competition, the players will play 14 rounds of matches. Each player will have four designated rest days each.

FIDE Candidates Tournament 2024 Fan Zone
The competition will also feature a fan zone, with local favourites GMs Eric Hansen and Aman Hambleton serving as hosts. It will also feature GM Viswanathan Anand and GM Irina Krush will serve as commentators.

The opening ceremony of the upcoming tournament will take place on the evening of April 3. Following the opening ceremony, both tournaments will start off on April 4 at 14:30 local time.
FIDE Candidates Tournament 2024 other events
The FIDE and the Local Organising Committee (Canada) are also set to organize other events as part of the competition. Besides the main competition, the LOC will host a chess festival that includes various side events and activities like the Chess Olympiad torch relay, blitz and rapid tournaments, watch parties, chess documentary screenings, lectures, and masterclasses.
