The FIDE Grand Prix 2022 is a chess tournament series that will take place between February 3 and April 4, 2022.

FIDE Belgrade Chess Grand Prix 2022 Leg 2 Schedule And Dates

The top two finishers will go to the Candidates Tournament 2022, the last round of qualification for the World Chess Championship 2023. Two tournaments will be held in Berlin, Germany, and one will be held in Belgrade, Serbia.

Currently, the second tournament of FIDE Grand Prix is taking place at Belgrade, Serbia. This tournament is scheduled to run from 1^st March to 14^th March. The matches will begin at 15:00 CET (19:30 IST) every day.

• March 1-7 – Group stage (with a rest day on Saturday, March 5)
• 8th March – Group stage tiebreaks (Weren’t Required)
• March 9-11 – Semi-finals
• March 12-14 – Final

Tournament Format

In the first stage, the 16 participants are divided into four groups of four, with each group competing in a double round-robin mini-tournament. Each pool’s top four finishers progress to the next round.

In the second stage, the four pool winners compete in a knockout tournament including semi-finals and a final. There will be two standard time limit games in both the semi-finals and finals, as well as tie-breaks if necessary.

FIDE Chess Belgrade Grand Prix 2022 Points Table System

The winner of the tournament will get 13 points and the runner-up of the tournament will earn 10 points. These points will be calculated towards FIDE Grand Prix 2022.

The double round-robin stage involved six rounds of regular time control games on March 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7, followed by tie-breaks on March 8. The champions of each pool progressed to the semi-finals.

After a tense game, GM Dmitry Andreikin emerged victorious in Group A. With a fairly decent draw as Black, GM Anish Giri booked his ticket to the semifinals from Group B of Belgrade Grand Prix.

GM Richard Rapport had set himself up perfectly in Group C for the last round, where he matched his semifinal position from Berlin with a fairly secure draw with the white pieces. Both games in the final group, the closest of all the pools, were exceedingly stressful, but GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave managed to sneak through.
