Holders Spain were drawn in Group G with the Islamic Republic of Iran, Cote d’Ivoire, and Brazil thanks to the intervention of Luis Scola, Jorge Garbajosa, and Dirk Nowitzki in the draw.

Along with the Olympic champions United States, Jordan, New Zealand, and Greece are all in Group C, making a showdown with two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo quite likely. The event, which runs from August 25 to September 10 with the final taking place in Manila’s Mall of Asia Arena, will be jointly hosted by the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia; all of whom failed to qualify.

Teams for pre-allocation to groups were chosen by the hosting sites. In the Araneta Coliseum in Manila, Philippines saw in Group A, while the United States saw in Group C at the Mall of Asia Area. Slovenia, led by Luka Doncic, and Japan were chosen for Groups E and F, respectively, in Okinawa, Japan, while Canada was placed in Group H in Jakarta, Indonesia.
