2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup final Germany vs Serbia winner, result, score, & best performers
After 20 minutes of high-scoring run-and-gun basketball in the first half, the score was tied at 47 all, but Serbian coach Svetislav Pesic had to adjust his starting lineup after the break because his star defender Ognjen Dobric had rolled an ankle and was unable to return to the game. The opportunity was fully utilized by Germany, who were able to get into their offensive rhythm while defensively placing a lot of faith in Johannes Voigtmann to face Nikola Milutinov one-on-one.
With 2:18 left in the third, Germany took the lead 64-53 as Serbia’s offence stalled as a result of the gamble. When the score was at 79-77, German coach Gordie Herbert entrusted the ball to his team’s ace and with 21.4 seconds left in the game, Dennis Schroder produced the decisive layup to make it 81-77. After that, Serbia lost the ball, and Schroder just set the winning score from the line.
