Prediction
22-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime, whose comeback victory over Jannik Sinner on Thursday is one of his most stunning performances this season, can reach a career-high ATP world ranking of the seventh on Monday if he can defeat Cam Norrie and Taylor Fritz. The Canadian appeared to be in terrific shape in Montreal before suffering a disappointing loss to Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals, but he should be stronger for it going into this matchup against a revitalised Borna Coric. Following surgery, the former world number 12 Coric missed a full season on the ATP tour. Five months later, at Indian Wells, the Croat finally appears to be finding his groove and may return to the top 20 next year.
After a seriously impressive straight-set victory over Roberto Bautista Agut on Thursday, Coric has won three straight matches for the first time since March of last season. However, his most notable victory came over Rafael Nadal in the second round.
The rush of confidence Coric will bring to the court late on Friday night must be overcome by Auger-Aliassime, and with the two having a 1-1 head-to-head record, this appears to be a possible thriller. The smart play here could be to back Coric to take at least one set, but Auger-Aliassime should have enough to prevail in the end.
