Faf du Plessis has been chosen the new captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of the Indian Premier League 2022 season, know his captaincy record

He succeeded Virat Kohli, who led the team from 2013 to 2021. In the IPL super auction last month, RCB purchased Faf for Rs 7 crore. Former RCB captain Virat Kohli handed over the captaincy to Du Plessis on Saturday.

Du Plessis, who played for Chennai Super Kings till last year, was acquired by RCB for Rs 7 crore in the IPL mega auction last month. In the contest to captain the side, he left Australia’s Glenn Maxwell and India’s Dinesh Karthik in the dust.

Faf was one of RCB’s key targets during the IPL auctions because of his outstanding leadership abilities. He’s also familiar with the format and a seasoned campaigner in the IPL. While he wears the number 18 for his country and other teams, his jersey number at RCB is yet to be known.

In addition to this Faf is not only a world-class player but, he also possesses exceptional leadership qualities on the international stage in all three formats of the game. Faf’s IPL Stats, Runs And Career

In 100 IPL matches, the former South African captain has scored 2935 runs, with the top score of 96. He has 22 fifties and a 131.08 strike rate in his career. He has played for Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Super Giants so far.

Faf was instrumental in CSK’s victory in the IPL 2021 final. CSK won their fourth title when he hit 86 off 59 balls.

He’s had a fantastic IPL season. He has been a standout batsman for CSK in the previous two seasons, hitting 449 runs in 2020 and 633 runs in IPL 2021. In both seasons, he had a strikeout total of 140.

Faf’s Captaincy Career

In February 2013, Faf was named full-time T20I captain of the Proteas, before taking up the Test captaincy from AB de Villiers in 2016.

He was also selected the ODI captain in September 2017. South Africa reached the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2014 under his leadership, but failed to repeat the feat in 2016.

During the 2016/17 season, he made a strong start as Test captain, winning two series in New Zealand, one in Australia, and sweeping Sri Lanka 3-0 at home. He won 17 of his first 20 ODI games as captain, including series sweeps over Australia, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka at home, as well as a 2-1 triumph away from home against Australia.

He captained the Proteas in 40 T20Is, winning 25 of them. He captained South Africa in 36 Tests and 39 One-Day Internationals, winning 18, 28 respectively.

In franchise cricket, he has led the Comilla Victorians, Paarl Rocks, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots and St. Lucia Kings and World XI. Overall, he has played 79 T20 matches as a captain, registering 43 win and 34 defeats while one ended in a draw and one in a no result.
