F1 1 Car 2022 vs 2021: In-Depth Comparison, Changes, Design And New Rules

Know everything about the new Formula 1 2022 car and how it is different from the current Formula 1 car. F1 2022 vs 2021 car changes, design and new rules explained

Formula 1 and FIA have worked very closely with the teams to create a more action packing experience for the audience at the races. We have missed the crucial part of the sport in the past few years where the drivers are battling for their lives in tight and fast corners giving each other a hard time on the circuit.

New Formula 1 car has been specifically designed for better a better racing experience allowing the cars that are behind a fair chance to get in front meaning that the fastest driver will win the race irrespective of who is leading.

New sets of rules and regulations have been brought into the sport that keeps on improving constantly. The primary aim of the new car is to create more close races and longer battles between the drivers.

F1 2022 vs 2021 Car Changes Explained: In-depth Comparison

1. Front Wing

the first cosmetic change can be witnessed at the front of the car which now looks sleeker and more aggressive. The new front wing has a completely changed design which allows dirty air to flow rotationally rather than upwards.

This will allow drivers to race closer and decrease the gap between them by generating more downforce. It will ensure that the fans are treated with longer battles that go to the final lap of the race.

The floor design has been completely changed as the new car features two underfloor tunnels as compared to the flat straight stepped bottom. This will improve the clean airflow and generate more downforce.

Current F1 cars are designed to run on clean air but when you tuck in behind another driver, you get a lot of dirty air which disrupts the pace of the car and often leads to locking of the wheels at crucial corners.

3. Rear Wing

The rear wing design has a few similarities from the current design with the adjustable Drag Reduction System (DRS) flaps that conduct the airflow up and over the car following behind.

In the current car, the dirty air flows directly through the rear endplates a factor that has made it hard for drivers to follow in the current era. Following cars get dirty air which causes turbulence and disrupts the downforce of the car in corners.

4. Wheels and Tyres

Major change witnessable in the new Formula 1 car is the change in tyre size and profile. New F1 cars will have 18 inches tyres and have a low profile which will slow the overheating process when the car slides on the track.

It makes the new car look more aggressive and bolder in terms of design. The introduction of wheel covers will ensure no modifications aerodynamically by the teams in order to let the clean airflow from the tyres.

5. Bodywork and Weight

Looking at the side profile of both the cars, the new F1 car looks sleeker and a lot cleaner than the current design which looks bulky. The return of cooling exit louvres on the bodywork will be a key area of freedom for the teams to exploit.
