Martรญnez was given the nickname “Butcher of Amsterdam” during his three-year Ajax period. Martinez is an aggressive defenceman who is not afraid, loves to go against the players and throw his weight around his opponents on the field.

Speaking to his nickname, Martinez said-
“Yes, they call me the carniceroโthe butcher in Amsterdam. We Argentineans do everything passionately and when I go on the pitch, I fight for every ball. If I have to walk over the dead bodies, I do it.
“I want to win every 50-50 because I know I’m fighting for food for everyone in my family and for my friends. I feel this way โ as do all Argentinians. That’s the kind of motivation I can’t talk about.
Martinez was brilliant against Liverpool
When Martinez was signed for Manchester United this summer, many criticized Martรญnez for being smaller, as he is only 5’9 and even claimed he does not fit into the Premier League. The Argentinean had difficulties during his first two games and was even replaced at halftime against Brentford. But Martinez shuts everyone down on Mondayโs game against Liverpool.
Martinez produced his best performance against Liverpool, he has been a total monster all along. He was well disciplined and set the tone in the first minutes of the match, going against Mohammad Salah. Nicknamed ยซThe Butcherยป was everywhere on the field, offering passes to the wingers and even getting personal with James Milner, but remained cal. He also defended Bruno’s close own goal off the line by being present at the right spot and at the right time. He showed everyone why Man-United bought him for ยฃ57 million.
