To commemorate the Stonewall riots of 1969, Pride Month is observed throughout June. According to the United States Census Bureau, the Stonewall riots were a turning point in the gay liberation movement in the United States, sparking change in LGBTQI+ rights around the world.

The first march was staged on the first anniversary of the stonewall in 1970, according to the Library of Congress. Every year in June, people from all around the LGBTQI+ community come together to celebrate their identities and raise awareness about equal rights.

In The Year 1999, Pride Month Was Established In The United States

Former President Bill Clinton declared June to be Gay & Lesbian Pride Month in 1999, and the US government officially recognised the month. The next year, Clinton declared June to be a month of pride once more.

Following Barack Obama’s election as the 44th president of the United States, the month of June was designated as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month (LGBT Pride Month).

Last June was designated as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Pride Month by now-President Joe Biden.

Biden issued a proclamation declaring June to be Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Pride Month shortly after the start of Pride Month 2022.

In The Year 2022, The UK Will Celebrate 50 Years Of Pride

June has become regarded around the world as a month of pride over the years. This year celebrates the fifth decade of Pride festivities in the United Kingdom. On July 1, 1972, the first pride rally was conducted, two years after the first celebrations in the United States. The 1st of July is supposed to have been chosen since it was the closest Saturday to the Stonewall riots’ anniversary at the time. The Evening Standard reports that the 2022 Pride in London events will begin on Saturday, July 2nd.
