Jeswin Aldrin Cliches Gold At National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships However His Long Jump Is Not A Record
Jeswin Aldrin, a track and field athlete from Tamil Nadu, won a gold medal at the 25th AFI National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships in Kerala on Sunday with a stunning 8.37 metre long jump. With the jump, Aldrin broke the national record set by Olympian Murali Sreeshankar, who earned a silver medal in the competition with a jump of 8.36 metres on his third attempt. However, due to a technical issue, Aldrin’s record will not be recorded.
Why Is Jeswin Aldrin 8.37m Jump In The Fed Cup 2022 Not A National India Record
Aldrin, who broke the 8.37 metre barrier in his second try, was unable to break the record because the wind speed during his leap was +4.1 metres per second, well above the permissible limit of +2 metres per second. On Sunday, Aldrin attempted five jumps, all of which he cleared the 8-meter threshold. However, it was on his second attempt that he broke Sreeshankar’s national record of 8.26m.
Head Coach Of The Indian Athletics Team On This Issue
Jeswin Aldrin’s 8.37 metre performance was not legal, hence it will not be counted for record or qualification purposes. However, because his 8.26m effort (in his fourth attempt) was acceptable, he has qualified for the World Championships as well. Radhakrishnan Nair, who is the head coach of the Indian athletics team, stated this to the news agency PTI.
Sreeshankar Gets Silver
Sreeshankar, meanwhile, smashed his own national record with a jump of 8.37m in his second attempt. At first he opened the competition with an 8.16m jump. Sreeshankar’s 8.37-meter jump was recorded in the books, despite the fact that the wind speed at the time of the attempt was +1.5m/s.
Sreeshankar’s 8.36m will become the new national record (if validated) because it was a legitimate jump, despite the fact that he did not earn a gold medal. Radhakrishnan Nair added.
Muhammed Anees Yahiya To Get Bronze
Kerala’s Muhammed Anees Yahiya took third place in the tournament with a leap of 8.06 metres. The wind gauge registered a reading of +2.3m/s at the time of his jump. Due to which it deprived him an opportunity to join the books. In the meanwhile, Aldrin and Sreeshankar have qualified for the World Championships. It will begin in the United States in July.
