Reasons to boycott Liger are
1) nepotism ka baap Karan johar production.
2) Nepo kid ananya Pandey as a heroine.
3) Too much attitude by Vijay devarakonda in recent days.#BoycottLigerMovie— Joseph Prince (@JosephP65756838) August 20, 2022
The upcoming film is a sports drama, produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Liger is directed by Puri Jagannadh.
Aside from Vijay Deverakonda, the film also featured Ananya Panday in the lead role. The movie is scheduled to release on the big screens on Aug 25.
While asking others to boycott the movie, a Twitter user penned down, “Don’t forget this film is also produced by Karan johar who hates Hindi culture and listen carefully Vijay’s words he didn’t care about anything so we must unite this time also to boycott his upcoming movie.”
Despite that, the 33-year-old Vijay has been relentlessly Promoting his upcoming film Liger in various cities.
However, since early Saturday morning, the hashtag “#BoycottLiger” has been trending on the internet.
The boycott trend started when Vijay supported actor Aamir Khan and his latest box office failure film, Lal Singh Chaddha.
Recently in an interview with India Today, Vijay stated that, “When you decide to boycott a film, you are not only affecting Aamir Khan, you are affecting thousands of families who lose work and livelihoods.
Aamir Sir is someone who pulls the crowd to the theatres. I am not sure why this boycott call is happening, but for whatever misunderstanding, this is happening, please realise you are not affecting Aamir Khan alone but the economy.”
Referring to these remarks by Vijay, a Twitter user penned down, “Vijay Deverkonda blackmails Indians for families of filmmaking crew.
Indians have taken contracts to look after these families. Vijay Jee, you must convince Bollywood why they make jokes of Hindu Deities while 80% of the population is Hindu in India.”
However, it is worth noting that recent two releases, Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan, featuring Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar both failed at the box office even with an extended weekend, amidst widespread boycott calls.
According to social media users who are calling out for these boycotts, Aamir Khan’s anti-Indian sentiments in the past like his harsh representation of Hindu Gods in his previous film PK, and his bluntly political pronouncements in the past have all contributed to Laal Singh Chaddha’s dismal performance.
And as for Raksha Bandhan, the boycott called because of emanated from Hinduphobic comments made by its writer Kanika Dhillon.
As per social media users, Kanika had repeatedly attacked hindu beliefs and religious sentiments targeting the BJP and PM Modi.
Speaking of boycott, another Bollywood film Dobaara starring Taapsee Pannu as the lead, has also failed to garner the views as the film was called out for boycott by netizens to fulfill the request of movie’s director.
The movie was directed by Bollywood’s controversial director Anurag Kashyap and failed to Pique the interest of the audience. The movie was released in theatres on Aug 19, but had only 2-3% occupancy rate on Day One.
