The occasion in Wembley buzzed with fans of both teams as they sang famous slogans and cheered up their teams. However, the occasion witnessed some strange events as well. Before the kick-off, a lot of fans began booing Prince Williams as he was about to shake hands with the players.

What were the reasons the fans began booing the Prince?

The Prince went to shake hands with both Liverpool and Chelsea players. As he walked on the pitch, Price Williams was booed by part of the crowd at Wembley Stadium. It didn’t stop there as fans booed continued when the national anthem was played. Prince William continued to sing “God Save The Queen,” but the fans continued to boo in obscene gestures.

The reason why the fans booed is still unknown, but many observers presented then at the stadium suggested that they were Liverpool fans. It was not the first time, during the final of the Carabao Cup in Wembley earlier this year, there was a similar incident in which the fans were booing the national anthem.

One of the main reasons for doing so is the “managed decline” of the city and these feelings were reinforced significantly by the way the Hillsborough disaster was covered. They are now reporting poverty, increased use of food banks and growing inequality as a cause of their strength of sentiment toward the country’s elite. Due to the tension between the city and the countryside, most Liverpudlians do not even support the English national team in major tournaments like World Cup and Euros.
