In the 2022 Winter Olympics, there will be a total of 109 medal events across the following 15 sports, know what is the snowboard cross mixed team event at the games

In addition to this, in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, seven new sports have been added which includes Women’s Mono bob, Men’s and Women’s Big Air (Freestyle Skiing), Mixed Team Snowboard Cross, Mixed Team Aerials, Mixed Team Short Track Relay, and Mixed Team Ski Jumping.

Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 in this edition will be featuring nine mixed events. One of the newly introduced sports out of seven is the snowboard cross mixed team event.

A lot of new sporting events have been added in this edition to increase gender equality and mixed events are playing a vital role in the Olympic program. There will be nine mixed events at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics which includes four new ones and five that have already been featured at past Olympics.

In this sport, a maximum of 16 teams with two athletes per team will fight in a knock-out event as it will reach a finale with an energetic final, which will include four teams that will make a try to win the first Olympic gold medal in the history of the Winter Olympics.

In this event, each of the teams is compiled of two snowboarders, one woman and one man where men will be competing first and then, women participating second.

After the first team member crossed the line, the time advantage the male player gets over the next competitor is transferred to his female companion. Then the female counterpart start their race in a slow and unsteady manner, along with the time advantage they get in their hand is added to the beginning. The first female athlete to pass the line wins the race.

Who To Keep An Eye On During The Games?

Jarryd Hughes and Belle Brockhoff of Australia, who are the current world champions will be eyeing their Olympic gold at Beijing 2022. If  Brockhoff wins then it will be the first for him and a second for Hughes who is the reigning silver medallist in the men’s individual competition.

Also, one should keep an eye on Lorenzo Sommariva and Michela Moioli of Italy who was silver medallists at the 2021 World Championships and clinched the big final in December’s World Cup in Montafon – the only World Cup this season in which the event will feature. Not only this, but Moioli is also the defending snowboard cross Olympic champion. In Montafon, the Italian duo also clinched before the Czech Republic’s Eva Samková and Jan Kubicik.

How To Follow The Sport?

The venues are Genting Snow Park, which is also known as Secret Garden, in Chongli, which will host all the snowboard events with the exception of Big Air, including the snowboard cross mixed team event.

The snowboard cross mixed team event will start on day one, which is 12 February 2022 on your calendars.

The event will start with the quarterfinals at 10 am according to the local time, and with the semi-finals that will start half an hour later. The small final will take place at 10:50 just right before the big final, where the best four teams will fight for the gold.
