It is inspired by 冬, which is the Chinese character for the word “winter”. The emblem of the Beijing Winter Olympics resembles a skater at the top and a skier at the bottom. The flowing ribbon-like motif between them symbolizes rolling mountains, Olympic venues, ski pistes, and skating rinks of the host countries. It also aims to focus on the points that the Games will coincide with the Chinese New Year.
