Four normal men Kevin Rooney, Alex Lacey, Jamie Phillips, and Connor Humpage, from the city became internet famous back in 2019 when a photo of them on a night out went viral.

The statue of these four guys was unveiled on Saturday, Aug 27, outside All Bar One, Grand Central, which is where the original photograph had been taken.

Famous artist, Tat Vision, took to his Twitter handle to upload a sneak peek of the hilarious statue, which sees the 4 guys immortalized in bronze metal.

The famous four lads in jeans’ meme is actually just a photograph of 4 British lads all standing in front of a British Bar. The meme went viral online as it represents British youth culture back in 2010 perfectly.

It’s all about the way these 4 guys are dressed up. All of them were seen wearing things that were notorious with 2019, such as Alexander McQueen trainers, tight shirts, cropped grey chequered trousers, polo tops, tattoos and a whole load of fake tan.

The meme actually showed the typical type of boys you might see while you’re on a night out in the UK, and people often added their unique captions that made the image even more hilarious.

At the time, one of the most famous and hilarious versions of the photo was where the 4 lads singing a sea shanty, which combined 2 of the most viral memes.

Origin of the Viral Meme?

These 4 Birmingham and Coventry guys were on a night out when their picture was taken. Little did they know, their picture will become one of the internet’s biggest memes.

In the photograph, they are seen standing outside All Bar One in Birmingham, which is a bar chain located by New Street Station which is quite popular for night out.

According to a report by Tap, after taking a picture outside the bar, these guys went to a popular bar called Slug and Lettuce.

Three of them work in manufacturing, and one is a tattoo artist. One of these guys posted the image to his social media platform, however, the image went instantly viral.

Meme took Dark Turn

At first, these guys found the meme quite funny, but it quickly turned and took a dark mode as the captions associated with the meme began relating to big topics like Black Lives Matter.

In an interview with Tab, Jamie told the outlet that, “It’s just not on. The last thing you want your face associated with is racism.”

Another one of them, Connor, took to his social media platform, Instagram and wrote, “TO CLARIFY, THIS MEME IS BY NO MEANS OUR VIEWS.”

He further added, “It’s stereotyping normal lads for being racist and simple, which couldn’t be any further from the truth.”

Finally in 2022, the meme died down, however, these four lads sometimes post something on TikTok where they have more than 100,000 followers.
