The Beijing National Aquatics Center, which is one of the Olympic Green venues, will host the curling competitions at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Curling contests are set to take place every day of the games, from February 2 to February 20. Curling will be on the Olympic programme for the sixth time.

What Is The Curling Game And Meaning?

Curling is an ice sport in which two teams compete against one another. In the men’s and women’s competitions, each team includes four players, while the mixed doubles tournament has two competitors (one man and one woman) per side.

The two teams take turns tossing a curling stone (more of a single push) down a lengthy sheet of pebbled ice in the direction of a scoring area known as the house.

Ends are used to break down a curling game. When all of the stones have been tossed, the game is over.

The player that delivers a stone must release it before the hog line, otherwise it will be taken away. While the stone is travelling between the two tee-lines, the throwing team is allowed to sweep in front of it. In that location, the throwing team is unable to sweep an opponent’s stone. One member from each team is allowed to sweep after the stone reaches the second tee-line. The skip, who is also the captain, and the vice-skip are the only ones who can sweep an opponent’s stone.

Sweepers are only permitted to sweep stones in motion, including those that the thrown stone may strike, but sweepers are not permitted to make contact with any stones. If a player collides with a stone, the opposing team’s skip has the choice of returning any affected stones to their original locations or leaving them alone.

A stone that strikes the house’s side walls or travels beyond it is disqualified from the competition.

How Does Curling Scoring Work?

Curling’s goal is to get the stone as close to the button/tee (the innermost of four concentric rings inside the house) as possible. However, not all stones are thrown with the same motive. Teams will sometimes use a stone to knock the opponent’s stone(s) outside of the home or to protect their own stone(s) inside the house.

In each end, only one team can score. The team with the stone closest to the button receives a point, and other stones inside the house that are closer to the button than all of the opposition’s stones can earn additional points.

At the end of a game, the team with the most points wins. In the event of a tie, the game is decided by a tiebreaker.
