If you’ve ever been on vacation in France, you’ve probably seen people playing pétanque at some time. The game in perticlurly popular in the southern region of France.
Although, its origins can be traced back to the Ancient Greeks, who enjoyed tossing flat stones and, later, stone balls. Before bringing the game to France, the Romans added a target ball and established the essential rules that still exist today.
pétanque has existed in its contemporary form since 1907, when it was invented in Provence, France.
Previously, a variation of boules called as jeu provencal was popular after rising to prominence in the late nineteenth century, in which players either rolled their boules or ran three steps before tossing them.
THe game is now played internationally in high profile tournament. This game is played at regional, national, and international levels all around the world. The greatest players compete in high-profile tournaments like Mondial La Marseillaise in France and La British Open in England.
Thailand is presently ranked second in the Pétanque World Championships. According to the survey, an estimated 1.5 million Chinese students play the game at school.
How to play Pétanque on Google Doodle?
Playing Pétanque with Google Doodle is fairly easy. Just click on the doodle and a new window will appear. Green and purple olives compete to get steel boules all the way up to the target ball or cochonnet.
According to google, “The rules of the game are fairly simple: throw, toss, or roll your team’s metal boules closer to the target boule than the other team. Over a series of rounds, the first player or team to score thirteen points wins!”
