Explained what is a Triple Crown in Snooker, meaning and full list of winners
The World Championship Is the pinnacle of snooker. The Championship, which was first won in 1927, frequently moved around and was played in different venues and countries until it found its spiritual home in the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield in 1977, where it has remained ever since.
The UK Championship: The UK Championship was first held in 1977 and was initially only open to British residents and passport holders. That changed in 1984, when it was designated as a ranking event open to all professional players.
The Championship has had several homes over the years, but it is now a regular fixture at York’s Barbican, where it has been held every year since 2011 (with the exception of 2020, when it was held behind closed doors in Milton Keynes due to the Covid-19 Pandemic).
The Masters is snooker’s premier invitational event, with the world’s top-16 ranked players typically competing. The competition, which began in 1975, is always played with a single table. Since 2012, crowds have flocked to the Alexandra Palace, which has always been held in London (except for 2021 due to Covid-19).
Throughout the modern era, BBC television broadcasting has supported all three events.
The Triple Crown is awarded to players who have won all three events at some point in their careers.
Only 11 players in history have won at least one UK Championship, Masters, and World Championship title. Steve Davis, Terry Griffiths, Alex Higgins, Stephen Hendry, John Higgins, Mark Williams, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Neil Robertson, Mark Selby, Shaun Murphy, and Judd Trump are listed in chronological order from first to last.
Only three players have won the Triple Crown in the same season: Steve Davis (1987/88), Stephen Hendry (1989/90 and 1995/96), and Mark Williams (2002/03).
Ronnie O’Sullivan leads the all-time list with 21 victories in single Triple Crown events won during their careers. He has seven World Championships, seven UK Championships, and seven Masters titles to his name.

When he won his 19th TC event at the 2018 UK Championship, O’Sullivan surpassed Stephen Hendry at the top of the list.
