Boria Majumdar has been banned for two years by the BCCI for abusing veteran wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha. The sports journalist will not be allowed to interview registered players or access stadiums in the country.

As part of the BCCI Apex Council’s punishments, Majumdar would be denied media accreditation for two years

The BCCI created a three-member committee on February 25 to investigate the threat texts sent to Saha for denying an interview invitation.

Saha initially refused to name the journalist in a series of tweets on February 23. However, the journalist was later identified as Majumdar during his deposition before the three-member committee. It included BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla, BCCI treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal, and BCCI councillor Prabhtej Singh Bhatia.

“Mr Wriddiman Saha has submitted screenshots of communications sent by a journalist on the social media site, Twitter. Whereby he said that he felt pressured by the conduct of the aforementioned journalist,”. BCCI interim CEO and IPL COO Hemang Amin wrote in a letter to the state units on May 3.

During the hearing, Mr. Saha identified Mr. Boria Majumdar as the journalist”

“The BCCI Committee considered the statements by both Mr Saha and Mr Majumdar and found that Mr Majumdar’s acts were clearly in the character of threat and intimidation,” Amin continued.

The stated committee, according to Amin, suggested three sanctions to the Apex Council, which were agreed upon and imposed on Majumdar.

Consequences

The consequences include a two-year ban on accreditation as a member of the press at any domestic or international cricket match in India. Also a two-year restriction on interviews with any registered players in India. Moreover, a two-year ban on access to any BCCI and member association owned cricket facilities.

The top BCCI official has instructed all state units to help their respective organisations comply with the penalty.
