The top four teams in the points table are qualified for the playoffs. The top two teams in the points table have a special advantage. They get 2 opportunities to seal their place in the finals. While the other two finished in 3rd and 4th on the points table have to win both the games of the playoffs eliminator 1 and qualifier 2 to reach the finals.

Chennai Super Kings (11)
The MS Dhoni-led CSK team has qualified for the playoffs most no. of the time. CSK is the most consistent team of IPL as they have only failed twice to seal their place in the top 4.
Mumbai Indians (9)
The five-time champions have been qualified for the playoffs on 9 occasions out of 15 seasons.
Qualifier 1 match in the playoffs
The top 2 teams in the points table have a special advantage. They both play each other in the qualifier 1 and the winner gets a direct ticket to the finals and the loser gets another opportunity to qualify for the finals in the Qualifier 2.
Eliminator match in Playoffs
The 3rd and 4th positioned team in the playoffs doesn’t have the leverage to get 2 chances of qualifying for the finals. Both the teams standing 3rd and 4th on the points table face each other in the eliminator. The team that wins the game gets progressed to the stage where they play the qualifier 2 against the loser of qualifier 1 to progress to the finals.
